I have always heard that you do not appreciate your parents completely until you become a parent yourself. And, I must say, this statement is totally true! When I was younger, I had a mouth, attitude, and tested the nerves of my mother. She would take all she could until she would just lose it. At the time, I thought she was totally irrational and I didn't understand her frustration... until NOW!!!
My daughter is two... excuse me, Terrible Two!!! At the beginning, I thought we were going to slide past the awful "terrible two" stage, but we didn't get so lucky. We are now deep into them! Her favorite sayings include:
- "That's mine!"
- "Don't tell me no!"
- "Stop looking at me!"
- "Quit being mean to me!"
- "I'm not playing anymore!"
These "Rules of Possession" I found on Pinterest describe her completely...
She has received time-outs, spankings, an occasional swat, and several intense conversations about manners and being nice. We are trying to stay consistent, but it is very difficult. At the end of the day, her daddy and I are left feeling lost, confused, tired, and frustrated. I know it is going to be a process that takes time and I need to work on my patience, but it is so HARD!!!
At this time, I want to say thank you to all of the parents, guardians, and any other care-givers for putting up with our "crap" for years without thinking twice. Today, I would like to bow and show my appreciation for all of your hard work and dedication. Parenting is not easy, and when you think you are doing the right thing, there is always that little voice that makes you second guess yourself.
Happy Parenting,
