Battery Storage!

After we had a family friend's son swallow a lithium battery a couple of weeks ago, I decided I needed to really look at where I kept these items in my house. What an eye-opener that was!!! Some of them were in a cabinet above our washing machine and others were sitting in a drawer where my daughter could reach them. Here is the storage containers that they were in...

Let me add that not all of these containers had lids. : ( So, I decided it was time to re-evaluate where I keep these little jokers.

I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a clear jewelry-making utility box for $5.00 that was located in the crafts section.

I popped in the dividers where I needed them (I had a few extras too), and sorted the batteries by type.  Then, I placed each group of similar batteries in their own section.

Next, I got out my handy label maker and started making labels for each section of the box. I purchased my label maker from The Container Store for $49.00 (remember, I had a gift card). So far, I love it!!!

And, can you guess the last step?!?! To put a chalkboard label on the top, of course. ; )

I plan on keeping this container in a top cabinet where my daughter can not reach it!

Happy Organizing,

  4. What a perfect container for batteries! I have that exact box, but use it for craft supplies. I need to pick up another one I guess! I hope your friend's son is OK. How scary that must have been. www.justhadabrightidea.blogspot.com

    1. Everything turned out ok. Thank you for asking! Very scary situation and something I never would've thought about. He actually took the battery out of his snowglobe and ate it. God is awesome and prayers work! ; )
