We Care About the Planet!

Happy Earth Day everyone! Today, I wanted to share with you the way my family helps the planet out on a daily basis. Over the past two years, we have gradually incorporated more and more ways to help our environment without even realizing that is what we were doing. I have become an individual that doesn't like to throw things away. I always think of ways to reuse something or recycle them.

Without further ado, here are some of the ways that we help our planet...

We collect and take all of the items that are made of plastic, glass, or metal to our local recycling bin. When I say "all" I mean it too. We wash and save spaghetti sauce jars, plastic wrap, green bean cans, shampoo bottles, and the list goes on and on. We are lucky enough that the school we work for has a recycling bin outside the administration building, which is a block away from our home. So, we don't have to travel with our recycling goods very far.

The bag we are currently filling with recyclable items.

These two bags are waiting to go to the recycling bins.

All of the clothes and household items that we can't sell or use anymore go to the Goodwill. We never throw away things that someone else may use. My mom has always been a huge donation person, so I got that from her.

We like to reuse things at my home. We take plastic grocery bags and reuse them as trash bags for our bathroom, bedroom, and playroom trash cans. We also use butter, sour cream, and Cool Whip bowls as leftover food containers and cereal bowls.

Instead of purchasing new furniture for parts of our home, we are taking older furniture that we already have and giving it a face-lift. These are just two of the many pieces that will get a makeover.

How do you and your family help our environment? I am sure there are things that you do around the house that you never even thought about until today.

Happy Earth Day,
