May Challenge: Creating a Household Binder (intro)

A couple of months ago, I was looking at Jen's blog, I heart organizing, when I came across her post about her household binder.

That got me thinking that I really need something like this in my household. We are always trying to search for information, menus, numbers, dates, etc. So, I decided to sit down and start creating one for my household.

This month, I will take you through my step-by-step process. And, I must note that I will be putting this binder together as I post. I have a few printables already created for the process, but nothing is actually "put together."

In this binder, I plan on including:
  • menu planning information
  • important dates
  • financial/bills checklist
  • weekly dinner plan
  • blog information
  • Internet passwords
  • important numbers/contacts
  • business cards for companies that we use
  • yearly goals/wishes sheet
I am sure this list will expand once I start the process today, but that is the information I came up with while I was brainstorming.

Without further ado, today, I am going to show you the binder I am using and the front cover that I created in Microsoft Word.

My binder...

I purchased this binder from Wal-Mart back in August 2011. I was originally using
it for school material, but decided it was the perfect binder for this project. I love the
bright and fun colors!

The front cover...

I hope the information I give you this month helps you start the process of creating a household binder for you and your family! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or suggestions. : )

Happy Creating,

  4. Love the binder, so fun! We have a couple binders that I go to, one for important numbers, one for recipes, and one for takeout menus that are all kept next to each other. Our girls are now older so I don't have to worry about their school papers. The binders have always been such a huge help in staying organized.

  5. Household binders save the day all the time! They make it so easy to access the information you need. I also keep a sheet where I record the height and weight of my kids a few times each year. It's fun to see how much they've grown ... and when I have to fill out certain documents (ie. passport application), I have the details handy!

  6. Cant wait to see your finished project. I am in the middle of creating one a little bit different for myself (since I am just in college and my "kids" have four legs) and I need more ideas! I just love looking at everyones variations on them and pulling a little from here and a little from there!
