May Challenge: Household Binder (Finances)

Last week, I shared my very first blog challenge (for May) with everyone: creating a household binder. I plan on creating this important binder to make things easier for me at home. It seems like I scramble around my house all the time looking for everything from menus to important numbers. So, this month, I am attempting to fix that issue, which will end up saving me tons of time in the end.

In my post from last week, I showed you the binder I was using and the front cover that I created in Microsoft Word.  This week, I am starting on my first section: the finance section.

In this section, I have included (so far):
  • extra checks
  • stamps
  • deposit slips
  • monthly bill planner
  • account passwords

I purchased these dividers with pockets from Wal-Mart for around $4.98. Each
section will have one of these dividers for extra storage.

In the finance pocket, I placed some extra deposit slips, checks, and I plan on placing
stamps in there as well. This will make bill paying a lot easier.

Behind the divider, you will find my monthly bill planner. As I pay bills each month,
I mark off the ones that I pay. This is to make sure that I don't forget to pay one of them.

A picture of the actual document on my computer that I created in Microsoft Excel.

Behind my monthly bill planner, you will find my passwords log. I think this sheet
is going to help me tremendously. I have a hard time remembering
passwords, especially if my husband is the one that created the account. So, now I won't have to call him every time I need to find out some information that he created.

Next up will be the menu/meal planning section... Stay tuned!!!

Happy Organizing,

  2. Love the pages you've created! We really need one for passwords. Right now I have them in my rolodex, but hate flipping through the whole thing to find them!

    1. Thank you! For some crazy reason, I was thinking a couple of weeks ago, "What would my husband do if something happened to me?" I am the one that does all the bill paying and he only knows a few account passwords. I hate to think that way, but you never know and always need to be prepared. :)

    1. I completely understand. I have definitely done that in the past with things. I guess you have to find the best suit for you. Then, it will be easy to keep up with. :)

  5. The password form is really smart ... a mommy brain just can be expected to remember all that stuff! Loving this project!

    1. Thank you! :) And, I am so glad you are enjoying this project. That is so funny that you say that about the mommy brain. "Mommy brain" is an actual term that I use all the time. It seems like I forget a lot more since I had my daughter. I don't understand it either.

  6. I created a household binder just a couple of weeks ago. My husband still isn't used to me telling him "It's in the binder" for answers to his questions. I found that we mostly needed scheduling help. I ended up with a section for each child, one for DH and I, and extra space for coupons, takeout menus, and "to be filed." With a calendar in the front pocket, we are all set! And I love those pocket dividers. That's what I use too!
