Happy June everyone!!! A new month means a new challenge... This one was a no-brainer for me. If there is one thing that I find chaotic in my household it is pictures. I have most of them stashed in a huge tub, but some are in drawers, bins, and stuffed in unknown places. So, I decided to devote this month to getting them all organized.
Throughout the next four weeks, I will go step-by-step through my organizing process with everyone. I am truly excited to get these important family memories collected and placed in one central location. Who's up for the challenge?!?!
If you are a little hesitant about completing such a big task because of time, I will break it down into easy and manageable steps. If we tackle a tiny amount each week, I know we can get it done. And, lets be honest... We are all busy people and time is usually not on our side. So, I plan on making this as painless as possible.
So, lets get started...
Step 1: Locate all of your photos and place them in
one central location.
If you are anything like me, you have photos everywhere. My main photo stash was in our spare bedroom closet (AKA Kate's playroom). Then, I found other photos in drawers, night stands, and other off-the-wall spots like randomly sitting on a closet shelf.
My central location will be a gray Rubbermaid tub that I will leave sitting in my office for the month.
Step 2: Take all of your photos out of their current storage accessories.
This will allow you to see all of the photos you are working with. You need to know what size they are, if they are labeled, and if they are even yours. And, lets be honest, do you really have all of your photos in identical photo albums that are organized?!?! Or, are you just like me and have them thrown in a box?!?!
My photo box is terrible as you can see from the photos. I have all types of storage units in the box that are piled on top of each other. It is a huge obstacle to figure out what is at the bottom of the box. And, in times past, I have given up before I even attempted to find what I was looking for.
One of the nice "free" Wal-Mart storage albums that some of my photos were housed in.
Taking out all of the photos.
I hope those two steps were pretty easy for everyone. Next week, get ready to label!!!

I started to do this years and years ago. I located (most) and threw away duplicates and then sorted in envelopes ... and that's where it ended. I had such big hopes and dreams of creating fabulous scrapbooks but couldn't decide if they should be chronological or themed and over thought it right out of my head!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you ... I know I should join in but my house is closing in on my and stressing me out. The dust bunnies are organizing a revolution!
:)

Thank you so much! It is a huge task, but I think I am up for it ;) And, good luck on getting rid of your dust bunnies. I did a little of that this weekend.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with a huge picture tub! The sooner you get those things organized, the better...or else more will just pile up. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou are exactly correct. That is why I decided to get it under control now, so when I start adding pictures to it, I will at least have an idea of where they need to go.

I have most of my pictures in albums which is all great and all, but they take up soooooooo much space. I'm looking for a better solution. Can't wait to read more!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope I have a good solution for you!!! ;)

This is on my list next fall when my youngest goes off to school and I have more time than I know what to do with all of the sudden! LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! Good luck to you when you start the process. ;)

Because I too am slightly home OCD, I have a weird phobia against displaying personal photos in my house...crazy, I know. As a result, I have pictures tucked in every drawer and on every closet shelf. Time to organize and downsize!
ReplyDeleteCara
I agree... It is definitely time to organize and downsize. ;) LOL
