Welcome back to June's Photo Challenge. Last week, we went through the first two steps:
Step 1: Locate all of your photos and place them in
one central location.

Step 2: Take all of your photos out of their current storage accessories.

This week is all about sorting and labeling. Once you have all of the photos out of the storage units, you are now ready to sort.
Step 3: Sort photos according to size.
Note: Please excuse the awful younger pictures of me.YIKES!
A photo of my removal and sorting process... I call it my organized mess!
All of my 4x6 photos wouldn't fit in one pile, so I had to create two large piles. Now, to the fun part... Labeling!
Step 4: Label the back of all photos.
I think labeling is the most important part of this whole process. Why? Because when you look at the photos ten or twenty years from now, you will want to know when it was taken. I was really good about labeling, but I slacked off. So, this step took me awhile to complete. Note to self: When you get pictures developed, label them IMMEDIATELY!!!
I always like to label photos with the following information:
- the date
- individual(s) in the photo
- place or event
An Example
The front - Excuse the glare!
The back - I labeled who, what, and when!
Since the labeling process takes quite a bit of time, that is all I am going to do this week. Next week, we will containerize the first set of photos.

ReplyDeleteThank you for being an RSS subscriber. I appreciate you reading my blog. I am from the bootheel of Missouri. I graduated high school from a small town in 2000 and went to college at The University of Mississippi. Are you from this area? It is a small world we live in, so you may know me, know someone that knows me, or have even seen me out somewhere. Those pictures are probably the worst pictures I have ever taken. LOL!!! And, they just so happen to appear on the top of my stacks.
DeleteThe guy with the mustache and tie is actually my husband. If you live around this area, you may know him. He coaches football, so he is everywhere. ;)
xoxo,
Kristin

DeleteI'm following along because I was waist deep in "planning" to organize my photos before I stumbled upon your blog. What a coincidence, I think.
ReplyDeleteAnyways.
I'm having a little anxiety...eek. I had planned to organize them by family/ year instead of by size. (I.e. My husband: elementary years, high school years, army years, etc. , and the same with me and my two girls) BUT I'm trusting that this process will end up working just fine. If not...then at least they have been sorted and labeled. Lol.
Also....I have stumbled across a few of what I like to call "WTF" photos in which I don't know who the person is or have any recollection of why this photo was taken, so I just toss it in my WTF pile. Is this normal? Have you experienced that phenomenon?
I am so glad you are following along. You can organize them in the best way for you, so please don't let my directions throw you off. The size method is working best for me, so I wanted to share that way with y'all. :) As for the photos that are off-the-wall, as bad as it may sound, I did shred some of them. I had random pictures of walls, blurry pictures of people I didn't know, and just photos I knew weren't important, so I tossed them. I know some people would've kept them all, but I try not to keep stuff that I know I won't need or use. I hope this helps!
