Unused Greeting Card Storage... Take Two!

Back in February, I showed everyone a way to store unused greeting cards using a mesh tabletop file.

I still love the idea, but found an even better way that I had to share.

While I was searching for the Iris photo storage box that I purchased for my June photo challenge, I saw this awesome little box for greeting cards.

I didn't purchase it at that time because I had several projects lined up, but I did eventually pick it up at a Michaels store when they were having a 40% off sale on craft storage. I think I paid around $6.99 for it. You can also purchase this Iris storage box from Hobby LobbyAmazon, Organize.com, and Stacks and Stacks.

Since this box only had six dividers, I had to narrow down my greeting card categories. After some thought, here are the categories I decided to use:
  • Birthday
  • Blank
  • Congratulations
  • Thank You
  • Thinking of You
  • Miscellaneous
Next, I had to create labels for each category. I used Avery #48860 labels for this process!

Now, it was time to place the greeting cards in their correct spots.

And, the last step... Any guesses on what I did for this step?!?!

Placed a label on the box. Once again, I used the Martha Stewart chalkboard labels I purchased at Staples.

Completing this project frees up the mesh tabletop file, so my husband will actually have a place to keep his files now. Overall, I am very satisfied!

  1. Great idea! I really should put together a greeting card box. That would save me a lot of time hunting for the perfect one when it's already late!

    1. Thank you! I am that same way. That is why I decided to start purchasing boxes of greeting cards with an assortment of types. It has helped so much. Now, I always have a card to go with a gift. ;)

  3. This is great Kristin! I recently purged and organized my greeting cards (you can see mine here if you're interested: http://fromoverwhelmedtoorganized.blogspot.ca/2012/06/organizing-my-greeting-cards.html) but I like your organizer better than my bin :) I buy assorted boxes too & I LOVE having cards in advance so I don't have to rush around at the last minute!

  5. I have this container (found it at Lowe's in the Christmas organizing containers of all places) and use it for a hybrid of your two posts. I store the little photo cases in it to hold all the bits and pieces that I cut with my Silhouette to make my own cards. It is such a great way to keep everything in one spot. Such a handy container! It's so nice to have cards on hand for those birthdays etc. that sneak up on you!

Speaking of which, I need to make a birthday card this morning :)

    1. How neat!!! It is definitely a great way to keep all of the small things together. Both cases have been lifesavers so far.

I need to start making cards. I haven't tried that yet, but I definitely might.

Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again. ;)

  6. I really like this idea! I store mine in an accordion file, but I like that this storage container is clear so that you can be reminded what you quickly and easily. I found you on Delightful order! :o)

  9. I'm so depressed now...Amazon will not ship this item to Canada, my Michaels doesn't carry them, stacks and stacks will send two to me for 52 dollars and organize.com will send two to me for a whopping 82 dollars. And it is exactly the size and style I'm looking for!

    1. That stinks! I hate to hear that. :(

Have you tried the Iris website (http://www.irisusashop.com/)? Maybe they can help you find someone that sells it there or can ship one for cheaper than that. That is ridiculously expensive.
