Over the past couple of months, I have thrown around the idea of taking off the blogspot portion of my URL. At first, the only way I knew to make this leap was through GoDaddy.com. If I did this, I was scared I would lose the followers I had already gained and that was not an option.
Then, yesterday, I saw an article on Snap! that discussed that exact topic. Kendra @ Key Lime Digital Designs discussed the simple way to accomplish the .com site without losing your important followers. It was almost like they knew I had been toying with the idea for awhile and needed to make a decision.
Here is what sold me on the idea...
I Won't Lose Followers!!!
Such a relief to know...So, for those of you that already use the www.theocdlifestyle.blogspot.com, you will still see my posts. What happens is that you will be redirected to my new site. If you look at the top of your screen on the address bar, I bet it says http://www.theocdlifestyle.com. This makes me super happy. And, the easy process of changing it makes me even happier!!!
All of the additions and changes were made straight through blogger. GoDaddy.com is the site that is housing my new domain name, but it is done through blogger, if that makes sense. So now, I actually have two addresses that can be used to get to my blog. : )
So, how did I do it? I want to walk everyone through my whole process, which took 5 minutes by the way.
Step 1: I clicked on the Settings tab in blogger.
Step 2: Then, I clicked "Add a Custom Domain" under the
Publishing section.
Step 3: Next, I typed in the domain name that I wanted to
use & clicked "Check Availability."
Step 4: I was directed to a page that stated
my domain name was available. If it wasn't available,
I would have gone back to Step 3
I would have gone back to Step 3
and found one that was available.
Step 5: Since my domain name was available,
I clicked "Continue to Registration."
Step 6: I filled out the information form
and provided payment for my site.
When filling out this information, I unchecked the box that said, "Automatically renew my registration every year." I would like to receive notification every year, so I can make the decision to keep the site or not.
Step 7: DONE!!!!
I am super excited about having my own domain name. A year ago, I thought it was going to cost a lot of money to have my own site name, but it only cost me $10 for an entire year!!! If I would've known that last year, I would've taken the plunge then.

Congratulations Kristin! I had no idea it was that easy either. Did you have to do something else to have your blogspot address redirected or is that automatic?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!! No ma'am... Blogger knows to redirect people to the new address. Awesome, right?!?! ;)

Yay! I've been thinking of taking the leap also and you have really inspired me. I thought it would be more expensive, but $10 is super cheap.
ReplyDeleteAwww... I am so happy to hear that. I was completely shocked too. I just knew it was going to cost at least $10 a month. LOL!
